Welcome to your Gap Year at the City of Marion.

The City of Marion’s Gap Year Program offers paid work experience, where you get to explore some possible career options.

Having a gap year with the City of Marion will give you the edge to kick-start your career.

Our program offers two school leavers a paid, 12-month role in council where you will learn new skills, gain valuable experience and help you with your future career choices.

What will you do?

You'll rotate through different departments across the organisation, building confidence while working alongside friendly professionals.

A city as big as Marion needs a skilled and diverse team to serve the community.

You'll get exposure to potential areas of interest in diverse roles that may include Finance, IT, Communications, People and Culture, Engineering, Landscaping, Community Wellbeing and Libraries.

With such a diverse range of jobs available, you can be assured that no two days will be the same, and you will gain wonderful experience to benefit your future.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals that have a positive attitude and a willingness to get involved. You don't need to have any specific skills or experience.

We're here to help you grow your creativity, to build your confidence working with others, to take on new challenges, and to develop skills like communication and leadership.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be part of something special.

The work year and times

Gap Year contracts will commence on 28 January 2026 and finish on 22 January 2027.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm, although there may be occasions when work outside these hours is required.

Please note: Applications must be received no later than 21 November 2025. Applications will be shortlisted, with interviews to be held week commencing 24 November 2025.
