Glandore Oval

Glandore Oval is a key multi-purpose sports and recreation facility in the northern area of the City of Marion that is well-used by the local community.
The facility is home to community organisations and sporting clubs including the Adelaide Cricket Club and Westminster Old Scholars Football Club. Additionally, Black Forest Primary School has the right to use the oval and cricket nets at certain times under an arrangement with Council.
Whilst Council has made some upgrades to the site over the past five years, the clubhouse is ageing, and the site is in need of improvements.

Oval Precinct Plan

The goal of the Glandore Oval Redevelopment is to create a multi-functional site, including a new sports clubroom that meets the needs of site user groups. In addition, the project will provide recreational facilities for the broader community.

The project will integrate the clubroom with the site and the surrounding area, preserve the oval, improve parking, and pedestrian access to ensure the facility's long-term sustainability. The State Government of South Australia is co-funding the project with Council providing $5 million through a 2022 State Government Election commitment.

The scope of the Glandore Oval Redevelopment project includes:

  • Demolition of existing main clubroom building and 5 other smaller buildings across the site.
  • Construction of a new clubroom building that includes -
  • A multi-purpose function space that can accommodate up to 180 people.
  • New bar, commercial kitchen and canteen.
  • Audio-visual equipment to allow for meetings and presentations.
  • Four changerooms compliant with current AFL guidelines.
  • New meeting room and storage spaces for sporting equipment.
  • Public toilets accessible by the community.
  • ESD initiatives including solar panels and all electric appliances and water heating.
  • Additional carparking adjacent to the building and nearby on Margaret Street.
  • New storage shed to cater for sporting clubs and oval maintenance requirements.
  • New pedestrian paths including lighting for public safety.
  • Improved spectator viewing facilities for sporting activities on the oval.

Glandore Oval - concept design

Concept design

Council has completed three rounds of community consultation on the proposed project to gather valuable feedback including:

  • In October 2023 consultation occurred with nearby residents to gather their thoughts on key priorities for the redevelopment which helped shape the initial concept design.
  • In February/March 2024 community consultation based on the draft concept design was undertaken to seek feedback on the concept design.
  • The 30 per cent design documentation which considered all the community consultation feedback received previously was then presented to the community in October 2024 for further feedback.

Next steps

The design is currently being finalised followed by tendering and procurement, and the construction phase is expected to begin in late 2025, with an estimated projected construction duration of 12 months.
