The City of Marion is committed to working with young people and the community to make the region a positive and inclusive place for young people to live, work, play and connect.

We celebrate diversity and individually and ensure all projects, events, grants and partnerships are inclusive for all young people including people of various gender, age, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

The City of Marion has an official Youth Collective Committee (YCC), that aims to bridge the gap between council and young people, organise youth led projects and initiatives, and provide positive outcomes for young people. You can stay up to date with what the YCC is up to through our channels.

Battle of the Bands is back in 2025!

Calling all young, local musicians - band registration s are open until 15 September, this time with an open, school-based AND soloist category! Register here.

Join us for the Marion Battle of the Bands! Over two EPIC days we will hear from the best young local talent on offer! There are two band categories, and for the first time, Marion Battle of the Bands also has a soloist category! They're all competing for a lifechanging prize - a mentoring and recording package AND a set at a major City of Marion event!

Not only will you get to hear the next BIG thing before they become huge, but there is an EPIC headline act to close each night at 7pm.

On Saturday we have Exit Plan – first place winner of Marion Battle of the Bands 2023 open-division! Exit Plan is an eclectic, shocking and groove-interlocking Indie Rock band hailing from Murray Bridge, South Australia. First formed in a tent years ago by brothers Seth and Cooper Clark, Exit Plan will be gracing the us with their raw, unfiltered rhythms as the headliner for Saturday!

On Sunday we'll be treated to a performance from Sol Collective – first place winner of Marion Battle of the Bands 2023 school-based division! Sol Collective is a passionate indie band with a carefree and fun loving vibe based here on Kaurna Yerta (Kaurna Land). They will be playing captivating original music for us as the headliner for Sunday!

This FREE event also features an epic market activation in the Marion Cultural Centre Plaza - with dozens of young stallholders selling homemade crafts and goods.Join us for the Marion Battle of the Bands! The Safe Space Project heard from young people in the City of Marion about mental health and wellbeing, and what helps them to feel safe. This project was lead by the City of Marion Youth Collective Committee in partnership with CCYP and headspace.

This report outlines the importance of mental health support tailored for young people, and the need for this in the community. The report also showcases how informed young people are, and that they have the ideas to create solutions targeted for their community.

It hopes to provide insight into how keyed-in and knowledgeable young people are about things that affect them, and that they have the solutions. The report showcases youth-led ideas and hopes to demonstrate to council needs that must be addressed to support youth mental health and wellbeing in the City of Marion.

The Marion Youth Collective Committee, along with On The Flip Side, local bands, and market stalls celebrated an energetic day of music, art, workshops, and skating on 17 June.

Despite wet weather, crowds emerged to celebrate their favourite music artists, including:

• Satin Sun
• Perfect 50
• The Genevieves
• Moshpit Girlfriend

The collective also organised a prize raffle on the day, giving out prizes to Mutiple winners, and collected survey data on our upcoming projects.

Local market stalls were also set up that sold Jewely, art, crochet, band merchandise and more!

The Marion Youth Collective Committe is back for 2023, bringing along a renewed energy and excitement to deliver positive change for young people in the City of Mairon.

The YCC meets fortnightly to discuss issues of importance to young people, organise projects, events and more to address the needs of young people, and inform Council on how they can interact to with young people in ensuring maximum positive change for young people.

The 2023 cohort have already been involved in numerous projects such as the Youth Week Art Exhibition, skate daze, battle of the bands, passions projects and much more!

The cohort consists of: Zane LeBlond, Emma Eldhose, Jessica Williams, Art, Charlotte Victory, Ariana Burgos-Garabelli, James Beaumont, Antony Abbracciavento, Henri Cowan, Tess Bennett, Lachlan van Dyke, and Sanjay Umakaran.

The Youth Grants are designed to support eligible groups and organisations to deliver well-managed and relevant activities and programs whilst strengthening connections for young people 12-25 years in our community.

The grants can assist youth organisations and services to identify projects that they feel meet a local need, utilising their experience, expertise and existing connections in the City of Marion. The Youth Grants will contribute to providing positive opportunities in a strong, connected and inclusive community.

Young people aged 12- 25 years at the time of the event are eligible to apply.

What is the Youth Achievement Grants Program?

The purpose of the Youth Achievement Grants is to encourage young people who have achieved outstanding results in their chosen field. The aim of the grants program is to award financial assistance to support young people achieving their individual goals. Grants are available for young people who are residents of the City of Marion, under the following categories but not limited to: Education and Academic Performance ,Youth Leadership eg: Youth Parliament, Youth Forums, The Arts eg: Creative, Visual and Performing, Sport and Recreation eg: State and National Competitions, Community and Culture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Sustainability.

Applicants are eligible for

$200 - state level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - national level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - state & national level representation for the same activity
