McConnell Community Native Garden

McConnell Avenue (McConnell Avenue Reserve West)

The McConnell Community Native Garden has been established by a community group called the Hilltop Hub @ McConnell on McConnell Avenue Reserve West.
The group has previously partnered with City of Marion to plant natives on the reserve and was awarded a Green Adelaide Grassroots Grant to install 16 wicking beds to make use of an old asphalt netball/basketball court that is no longer in suitable playing condition. Their efforts have made considerable improvements to the reserve adding some much-needed cooling and greening to the reserve and complimenting the wonderful view of the ocean. The group is supported by the 5049 Coastal Community Association and have recently signed a Community Gardens Agreement with council to support them to maintain and make further improvements to the now community garden. The group aims to give back to their community by offering community events and learning opportunities at the reserve to promote the wonderful benefits native plants play in our natural environment.
