What is community engagement?

Community engagement helps Council to achieve more effective governance through balancing decision making with sensitivity to community needs, interests and aspirations.

Well planned community engagement activities and processes enhance a vibrant local democracy and support the development of ongoing relationships with the people who visit, live and work in the City of Marion.

Marion 100

Marion 100 is a group of 100 local community members who collectively represent the diverse make-up of the City of Marion. The group is drawn from residents and ratepayers who expressed an interest in being involved in a forum on community engagement.

Since the groups formation in 2021, members have provided ideas and feedback which have been key in shaping a number of very important pieces of work including:

  • Marketing and engagement strategy
  • Annual Business Planning
  • Strategic Pan development
  • Brand Guidelines

Forums are held approximately 2 times per year.

Our policy

The Community consultation and engagement policy sets out the foundation and underlying principles of how Council works with its local communities.

Petitions

Petitions are an important way for the community to make requests to Council and provide information. They are one of the ways in which people can advise Council of their concerns and influence the decision making process.
