Sustainable Food

Growing local and sustainable food

Everyone has to eat, so everyone is connected to the food system. Yet, most people don’t know where their food comes from.

A lot happens before your food gets to your plate. This includes farming, storage, processing, transportation, selling and cooking. Then there's repurposing leftovers and food waste.

All these steps face big challenges like a growing population, cities expanding and the impacts of climate change.

What is sustainable food?

Sustainable food means considering the impact of each step along the way. This starts right from the farm and includes how your food is grown, transported and processed all the way to cooking, eating and using leftovers.

Where to start

A great way to discover the amazing local and sustainable food suppliers near you is to head to your local farmers market.
