Climate Change

Climate change is emerging as a vital issue for our community, with recent scientific research observations showing that societies and ecosystems are highly vulnerable to even modest levels of climate change.

South Australia’s temperatures are increasing and rainfall is decreasing. For the Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges region this means a general warming and drying trend. Identified impacts of these changes include:

  • Higher temperatures – including more extremely hot days (over 35°C) and heat waves.
  • More frequent very high and extreme fire danger days.
  • Decreased flows in water supply catchments (including the Murray-Darling).
  • Increased flood risk placing pressure on stormwater infrastructure.
  • Shifts in conditions affecting viability of native plants and animals.
  • Increased coastal erosion and storm surges.

Our climate change policy

We are committed to leading by example in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our operations and supporting broader community efforts to cut emissions.

We will work with our community to adapt to a changing climate and support a just transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Climate considerations will be embedded across our governance, services, and operations, with a proactive focus on managing climate related risks and building climate resilience.
