Resilient South

What is Resilient South?

Resilient South is a partnership between the Cities of Holdfast Bay, Marion, Mitcham and Onkaparinga, supported by the South Australian and Australian Governments.

Resilient South is about what we can do in the Southern Region to make sure our businesses, communities, and environments can tackle the challenges of climate change.

Changes in our climate, such as higher temperatures, declining rainfall, and rising sea levels require active management of risks. Resilient South also harnesses the opportunities presented by these changes so that the region continues to thrive and prosper.

You can find the following information on the Resilient South website:

  • Project newsletters and updates.
  • Information about workshops about how we can prepare for the changes in our climate.
  • Maps showing a range of social, environmental and economic data about the region, which helps us understand the risks and opportunities for the southern region presented by a changing climate.

Resilient South Regional Sector Agreement

Marion Council has renewed its partnership with 3 neighbouring councils in the southern region of Adelaide to tackle climate change alongside the State Government over the next 5 years.

Operating since 2011, a new agreement has just been signed extending the partnership until 2029.

By working together we can more effectively manage our networked infrastructure like roads and active transport routes, catchments and stormwater, and our network of parks and reserves.

Regional Climate Action Plan

The Regional Climate Action Plan (ReCAP) describes what Resilient South can do by working together to create a region that is climate resilient, with healthy and diverse natural environments, low emissions and connected communities.

The ReCAP was developed after listening to our community, young people, Kaurna, businesses, council staff and Elected Members. More than 900 people shared ideas and provided feedback.

The ReCAP contains 49 actions across four key areas:

  • Growing cooler, greener, biodiverse environments
  • Creating climate resilient neighbourhoods
  • Transitioning towards a low-carbon region
  • Reducing climate risk
