Grants

Through its Community Vision and Strategic Plan, the City of Marion has expressed a strong commitment to support the community through several grant opportunities. Eligible groups will encourage community connection for all people in our community. The shared Community Vision is for; A liveable, sustainable community.

Applications should reflect diversity and inclusiveness by ensuring projects, programs and activities are as inclusive and accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various gender, age, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

Community Grants - Open 1 July 2025 - 4 August 2025.

The Community Grants Program

The purpose of the Community Grants Program is to support local not-for-profit incorporated groups to establish and undertake projects or activities that are beneficial for the community.

Prior to applying, and for more information on eligibility, please refer to the Community Grants Guidelines.

Applications should reflect and support the following reports and policies:

The City of Marion Strategic Plan 2024-2034

Applications should ensure programs, activities and events are inclusive and as accessible as possible for all groups, including people of various genders, ages, sexuality, cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and those living with disability.

Grants of up to $5000 per applicant and one grant per round of up to $10,000 are available with a total pool of $90,000 of funding per financial year.

Community Event Fund - Open all year until allocation exhausted

Applications will be open each financial year and funds will be distributed across two 6-month periods.

Applicants may apply for up to $2000 per event, per financial year. Subject to eligibility.

Applicants are encouraged to submit complete applications one month prior to the event to ensure enough time for processing. 

What is the Community Event Fund?

The Community Event Fund holds $32,000 per financial year to assist local not-for-profit organisations to stage events or festivals. With the intention of providing a contribution to the cost of infrastructure for events that demonstrate a benefit to the City of Marion and which are in line with the City of Marion Strategic Plan.

If your planned event is on Council-owned land or facilities, you will need to apply for a Special Event Permit.

Youth Grants - Open 1 July 2025 - 4 August 2025.

The Youth Grants Program

The purpose of the Youth Grants Program is to support not-for-profit groups to deliver well-managed and relevant projects, programs and activities whilst strengthening connections for young people in our community.

The grants can assist youth organisations and services to identify projects that meet a local need, utilising their experience, expertise and existing connections in the City of Marion. The Youth Grants will contribute to providing positive opportunities in a strong, connected and inclusive community.

Applications should reflect and support the following reports and policies:

A total funding pool of $100,000 is available per financial year. Maximum $10,000 per application.

Youth Achievement Grants - Open all year until allocation exhausted

The Youth Achievement Grants Program has an annual budget of $25,000 and is available each year from 1 July until the budget is exhausted.

Young people aged 12-25 years at the time of the event are eligible to apply.

What is the Youth Achievement Grants Program?

The purpose of the Youth Achievement Grants is to encourage young people who have achieved outstanding results in their chosen fields. The grants program aims to award financial assistance to support young people in achieving their individual goals. Grants are available for young people who are residents of the City of Marion, under the following categories but not limited to: Education and Academic Performance, Youth Leadership eg: Youth Parliament, Youth Forums, The Arts eg: Creative, Visual and Performing, Sports and Recreation eg: State and National Competitions, Community and Culture, Technology and Innovation, Environmental Sustainability.

Applicants are eligible for

$200 - state-level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - national-level representation or equivalent in your chosen field

$400 - state and national level representation for the same activity

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Once I have applied and I am successful, how long until I receive my money?
A: Community Grants and Youth Grants can take approximately 4-5 months from round opening to Council endorsement. Other successful grant recipients are generally notified within four weeks

Q: How will I receive my money?
A: Payment will be made via EFT

Q: Can I submit my grant application in hard copy?
A: All applications must be submitted online via SmartyGrants

Q: What is auspicing?
A: If your organisation is unincorporated you will need an incorporated organisation with an ABN to sponsor your application. They will receive the funds on your behalf and will be responsible for ensuring the funds are acquitted

Q: What is an acquittal?
A: An acquittal is an accurate report at the end of your project on how the grant money was spent and what it was spent on. It will include a copy of all receipts and will demonstrate that the funding has been used for the purpose outlined in the application
