About Council
This year’s Book Week had it all, potion making, magicians and a giant inflatable frog.
With the theme "Reading is Magic", our library staff kicked it off with a wand-making activity, setting the magical tone for Book Week. This got everyone into the spirit before the festivities commenced.
The Marion Cultural Centre hosted the one and only Amazing Magic Mike, much to the delight of about 50 spellbound kids. Aspiring magicians were taken under his wing, learning tricks that left them wide-eyed and ready to start their own wizarding careers.
The Cove foyer was transformed into a magical haven, becoming the cozy resting spot for our giant storytelling frog. Families were entertained during children’s programs, and later the wonderful South Australian author Bethany Clark hosted an evening of literary magic and yoghurt making. The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the warm atmosphere and engaging activities. Some families returned with their school aged children in the afternoon to see the frog again.
Park Holme was buzzing with magic as we hosted two potion parties, featuring the enchanting Banksi Bubble Fairy from Arts by Nature. The atmosphere was nothing short of whimsical, with children concocting their own fizzy treats, mixed in magical crystals, and waved mushroom wands through the air. The little ones couldn’t get enough of the hands-on fun, happily getting messy and letting their creativity run wild.
It was a massive week and over 18 programs were delivered this week. There was a fantastic commitment and dedication to providing meaningful and enriching experiences for our community.
