About Council
The City of Marion has officially signed off on a new five-year commitment to continue its Cross-Council Irrigation partnership with Charles Sturt and Port Adelaide Enfield Councils.
The partnership allows councils to work together on irrigation projects in neighbouring councils, which not only reduces the workload, but allows them to be completed quicker.
It has led to more than $6.5 million worth of work to be completed since its inception in 2019.
This includes work on the critical Marion Water project, which operates a stormwater harvesting scheme delivering economic, environmental and social benefits to the community.
We recently saw a 12.8km extension to this pipeline completed in a matter of months, which would not have been possible without the assistance from our cross-council partners.
The treated stormwater is used at our own reserves as a priority, however surplus water is now being sold to third party customers.
They include the City of Mitcham, City of Holdfast Bay, Department for Education, Flinders University and the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing.
The Cross-Council Irrigation team is currently working on its largest project to date. A $1.2 million upgraded of the Marion Golf Course irrigation system.
It is projected that this partnership has also delivered around $1.43 million in savings for our communities across the three councils.
The CEO's from all three councils were delighted to sign-off on the new deal to allow more critical irrigation projects to be delivered over the next 5 years.
