MOU signing between Flinders University City of Marion and City of Mitcham

The City of Marion is set to welcome two Flinders University engineering graduates in 2025 thanks to a long-standing partnership with the university and the City of Mitcham.

The Joint Engineering Graduate Program will see two graduates allocated to each council and rotate between each throughout a two-year program.

This collaboration will provide Flinders University students with a broader perspective of local government and provide them with a genuine pathway to a career in the sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding with Flinders University and the City of Mitcham paves the way for exciting opportunities in graduate development, curriculum co-creation and research.

“We’re excited to announce this innovative program, developed in collaboration with Flinders University and our neighbouring council, the City of Mitcham, to nurture the next generation of local government leaders," City of Marion, General Manager City Development, Ben Keen said.

"By providing hands-on experience and fostering meaningful projects, we’re not just addressing workforce challenges but building a stronger, more resilient workforce for the future of our community,”

Marion and Mitcham councils already support short-term student placements which will act as a pipeline into the Joint Graduate Program.

“This collaboration is underpinned by a genuine approach to developing and engaging with Flinders University students and providing equal opportunity to any students interested in a career in local government,” Flinders University Professor Giselle Rampersad said.

Applications to enrol for 2025 have closed, however students can express their interest in future programs here. This program is open to current Flinders University Students or recent graduates and the application form can be accessed through CareerHub via Flinders OKTA. Click here for more information.
