A Glengowrie table tennis star hopes his dreams turn to gold when he dons the green and gold at the upcoming Paralympics in Paris.
Sam von Einem - a City of Marion resident for over 26 years - is at the top of his table tennis game, rising to world number one this year.
“Becoming world number 1 for the first time in my career this year was a big moment in my journey,” he said.
But his eyes are set on a much bigger goal.
“My last 2 Paralympics I have managed to win silver in those games. To go that one better and get the gold would be a dream come true,” he said.
His Paralympic journey started when he was diagnosed with an intellectual disability and he became classified to compete in the games at 18-years-old.
Paris will mark the third time he has pulled on the green and gold at the Paralympics.
“There is always a lot of pride in representing Australia at the Paralympics. There are a lot of people in Australia with disabilities and to represent all of them is a great privilege,” he said.
“Hopefully I can top it all off and do Australia proud in Paris.”
