The City of Marion and Pelligra Group regret to announce that, after extensive deliberation, both parties have agreed that the Marion Ice Arena project cannot proceed.

In 2021, Marion Council received an unsolicited proposal from Pelligra Group to build a state-of-the-art $20 million Ice Arena, with rock climbing facilities, at 262a Sturt Road (the former Marion Croquet Club site). The proposal required no capital investment from the Council.

After receiving strong community support for a local ice rink, Marion Council negotiated a 42-year lease with developer Pelligra Group.

Since 2021 Pelligra Group and the City of Marion have worked towards delivery of this project. However, Pelligra has found that the commercial climate has changed; much higher financing costs and construction costs associated with labour and supply chains mean the project is no longer viable.

The two old gum trees, potentially threatened by the development, will remain.

No Council decision has been made regarding alternative uses for the former Marion

Croquet Club site on Sturt Road. Council will seek to maximise community benefit on the site.
