About Council
Evonne Schulz has dedicated her life to her own health through community fitness programs, so it's not surprise to see her celebrating her 90th birthday today.
But even her own birthday celebrations had to wait on Friday until she completed her weekly ritual of hosting the Marion Movers fitness class at the Marion Church of Christ at Mitchell Park.
It's something she's been doing there for 25 years.
"I actually got the call to see if I could come relief someone while they went overseas," Ms Schulz said.
"That was back in 2000 and I offered to keep doing it until they returned, but they never came back so here I am."
And the dozens of men and women that attend the class are forever grateful.
"She's helping us all stay fit and active and she's done so for many years," one participant said.
But it's not only those who attend the Marion Movers class that reap the rewards.
Evonne hosts three other classes at Cooinda Community Centre and at the Glengowrie Methodist Church.
She's helping people aged from 50 to over 100 stay healthy of body and mind.
"My husband is 95 and I'm 90, so I guess it's no secret that looking after your health can lead to a longer life," she said.
"Good genes help too!"
